LISTEN: U.S. Tennis Association's Stacey Allaster on how the sport achieved equal pay

In 1973, Billie-Jean-King famously defeated Bobby Riggs in the legendary ‘battle of the sexes’ tennis match. The result wasn't just a victory for women on the court, but for society as a whole. King showed the world that women not only deserve equal prize money but equal respect too. The result would see King go on to lay the foundation for the Women's Tennis Association (WTA).

Today, the sport’s four major grand slams pay equal prize money to all its athletes. Former head of the Women’s Tennis Association, Stacey Allaster, was instrumental in its introduction. She explains how the sport achieved financial equality:
